Even though IGN recently reported some changes, Nintendo hasn’t officially shifted the pre-order date for the Nintendo Switch 2 in North America. According to IGN, the FAQ on Nintendo’s pre-order page mentions that the first wave of invites for pre-orders is set for May 8th. Interestingly, this date has been on the FAQ ever since the page went live on April 2nd, which was two days before any announcement of a delay. We verified this using the Wayback Machine, which captures how the site looked when it first launched.
Originally, the pre-orders were put on hold because of tariffs imposed by then-President Donald Trump on several countries, which would significantly affect the shipment of Switch 2 consoles to the United States. Fortunately, many of these tariffs have been largely reduced following a 90-day pause. However, Nintendo has yet to provide any updates on the new pre-order plans specifically for North American customers.
