Back in 2024, whispers about Rocksteady, the creators behind Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, working on a fresh Batman title started making the rounds. This chatter came courtesy of “Shpeshal Nick” Baker from Xbox Era, who suggested that Sony might be trying to bag it as a PlayStation exclusive. While the full story is still under wraps, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has backed up some of these rumors, confirming that indeed, a new Batman game is on the roster.
### What’s the Release Window for Rocksteady’s New Batman Game?
Schreier’s deep dive over at Bloomberg spills some beans on what’s cooking at WB Games’ multiple studios. When it comes to Rocksteady, he delves into the rocky launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which saw its content updates drying up within a year. Now, according to Schreier, Rocksteady seems geared up to go back to their roots: single-player Batman adventures. But don’t hold your breath—it’s not dropping anytime soon.
“Rocksteady is gearing up to revisit Batman with a single-player game, but those close to the project’s timeline suggest it’s still years from hitting our screens,” Schreier notes.
Of course, treat all this with caution—it’s still in the rumor sphere. Schreier’s track record is solid, and chances are they’re crafting something new in the Batman saga. But game development is a fickle beast, and there’s always a chance this title might never make it to retail. We’ll have to wait until Rocksteady and WB Games lift the curtain officially to know for sure.
Fortunately for Rocksteady, they didn’t hand this new Batman title to an external studio outside of WB Games. The less-than-stellar sales performance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League had Warner Bros. Discovery rethinking how they handle their properties.
“There’s a lot of interest from others wanting to tap into our IP for gaming, and we’re considering it,” noted Zaslav. “We need to expand, and the gaming potential of our IP is something we’re eager to leverage.”
