Big news for PlayStation aficionados and those who love vibrant, playful gaming experiences! Astro Bot snagged a prestigious BAFTA award last night, and it wasn’t just any accolade. It clinched the Game of the Year title, surpassing other stellar contenders like Helldivers 2 and Balatro.
But Astro Bot’s success didn’t stop there—it walked away with multiple awards in addition to the top honor, securing recognition for Audio Achievement, Animation, Family, and Game Design. This win adds to their impressive resume, following a similar triumph at The Game Awards last year, where Astro Bot once again outshone many major titles in a remarkably competitive 2024.
During the awards ceremony, the team gathered on stage to receive their award, with Nicolas Doucet delivering a heartfelt speech. He extended his gratitude to the dedicated team in Japan, saying, “Thank you so much to all of them, back in Japan. They crafted this game with so much love, so much care, every single day bit-by-bit. With no thought to winning things, we were just doing the best we could to make people’s lives brighter.”
Doucet continued, expressing appreciation towards key team members, the game’s composer, everyone at PlayStation, and all the partners whose games were part of the Astro Bot experience. His thanks also went out to the BAFTA academy, developers’ families, and the trailblazers of the video game industry.
