It seems that a lot of gamers are eager to dive back into an old classic, with many having already spent countless hours on it years ago. Just dropped yesterday without much fanfare, the remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has already reached impressive player numbers on Steam, trailing behind only one other single-player release of 2025.
Now, it’s important to keep in mind that these numbers come from just one digital platform, but even so, it’s a pretty promising start. And who knows, with the weekend approaching, those numbers might climb even higher.
As per SteamDB’s data, the peak number of players in the first 24 hours hit 182,298. Right now, as I’m reporting this, there are over 70,000 players wandering around Cyrodiil. To put that into perspective, Oblivion Remastered has edged out Baldur’s Gate 3 in the same time frame, the latter of which is riding high on a recent Patch 8 update. The only titles exceeding Oblivion’s numbers are some heavyweights like Counter-Strike 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, and Dota 2.
When stacking it against other 2025 releases on Steam, Oblivion ranks seventh in player peaks, with Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 being the only single-player game above it, reaching an impressive 256,000 players at its peak.
While we haven’t seen numbers from other platforms or sales figures just yet, it’s clear that Oblivion is off to a strong start on PC. The game’s availability on both PC and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate probably helps, along with the fact that the original game’s console versions didn’t support mods. This aspect seems to have piqued interest, especially among Series X/S and PS5 users.
People love a good reason to revisit games that hold a special place in their hearts, don’t you think?
So, have you had a chance to try out the Oblivion remaster? If you have, what are your thoughts so far? How many Oblivion gates have you managed to close? Feel free to share your experiences with us below!
