Recently unveiled at the Future Games Show, an exciting game titled “I Hate This Place” is set to make waves in the gaming world. Inspired by the 2022 comic book that shares its title, this open-world survival horror game promises a thrilling adventure. The development is underway by Rock Square Thunder, a promising studio in Poland established by some former Bloober Team talent. Set to be published in the final quarter of 2025 by Broken Mirror Games, Bloober Team’s freshly minted horror division, this game already has fans buzzing with anticipation.
Unveiling the collaboration within the project, “I Hate This Place” revealed itself at the Future Games Show as an intriguing partnership between Bloober Team, Skybound Entertainment, and Broken Mirror Games. The latter is a brand new horror-specific label from the mind of Bloober Team. Skybound Entertainment, a familiar name, came into the limelight in 2010, founded by David Alpert and “The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman. This multimedia powerhouse expanded its scope with Skybound Games in 2018, its own indie publishing label.
Fast forward to spring 2025, and at the Future Games Show, Skybound unveiled “I Hate This Place,” capturing the audience’s imagination with its open-world survival horror narrative. Broken Mirror Games will take the lead in publishing, supported by Rock Square Thunder’s expertise, thanks to its foundation of former Bloober Team developers. This collaboration hints at a rich horror gameplay that players are keen to explore.
The game itself draws from the creative pages of the 2022 comic by Kyle Starks, with illustrations by Artyom Topilin, adopting an aesthetic reminiscent of 1980s comic books. The plot follows the protagonist Elena, who stirs an ancient, threatening force. This sinister presence manifests itself in various chilling forms, with the most fearsome being the Horned Man, a relentless antagonist that players must tactically avoid.
Key elements of “I Hate This Place” center around its open-world survival mechanics. Players will need to master exploration and crafting to progress. While there will be moments to escape danger, players must also be ready to confront threats head-on. Combat will not just be about brute strength; strategic thinking will play a significant role, especially in the game’s dynamic day-and-night cycles which affect gameplay in significant ways. Details remain sparse, but it’s plausible that the Horned Man and other threats might emerge at specific times.
Reaching broader platforms, the game will be available on not just PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store but also on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch. Everyone is eagerly looking forward to experiencing this horror survival treat when it launches in the latter part of 2025.
Bloober Team, celebrated for its works like “Layers of Fear” and the “Silent Hill 2” remake, plays a critical role in this multi-layered project. Established in Poland in 2008, the team has continuously pushed boundaries within the horror genre, making “I Hate This Place” a highly anticipated addition to their lineup.
