Blizzard recently released an intriguing blog post that includes several in-engine videos showcasing their innovative interior decoration system. These clips highlight how furniture items can be arranged on a grid, complete with a feature that lets you snap pieces into place seamlessly. One of the cool aspects is that you can decorate larger items like bookshelves or dining tables with smaller objects that will move together with the main piece. It’s worth mentioning, though, that this blog entry focuses solely on decorating a single room, suggesting it’s just a glimpse into the overall experience. Blizzard has been clear that this is still a work in progress, meaning the interface you see now could look quite different in the final version.
For those who prefer a straightforward approach, the Basic mode offers a quick way to arrange your space. But for creative souls looking to dive deeper into customization, an Advanced mode is on offer. Here, you can experiment with clipping and rotating furniture along all three axes, which opens up possibilities for creating unique and intricate living environments.
Players will also appreciate the ability to resize objects—an important feature given the diversity in character sizes. A petite gnome, for example, might prefer furnishings that are smaller than those suitable for a towering Tauren. Additionally, Blizzard has introduced a feature allowing for the recoloring of certain furniture pieces, specifically designed for player housing. However, items drawn from existing assets might not offer this option.
While this update focused on interior spaces, Blizzard made it clear that the exterior appearance of a house won’t limit or dictate its interior. So, if you’re dreaming of constructing a vast mansion with just a cozy room inside, or perhaps a small cottage that surprisingly holds numerous rooms, go for it! The team indicated there’s much more to talk about, leaving us eager for what’s next.
While players are currently navigating through the 11.3 patch, known as Undermine(d)—set amid the bustling heart of goblin cartel culture—we’re still a few major updates away from the Midnight expansion. Despite this, Blizzard continues to share fascinating sneak peeks into upcoming content. With BlizzCon making a comeback in 2026 after a break, there’s plenty to look forward to. Personally, I’m excited about this new player housing system and I’m curious about the possibility of choosing my own ideal location. If given the option, I’d love to claim a spot in Grizzly Hills for its serene atmosphere.
