If you’ve been crossing your fingers and hoping that NetEase Games would bring a role lock feature to Marvel Rivals, get ready for a twist. Instead of implementing a system akin to Overwatch’s method of balancing team compositions, they’re introducing a fresh game mode. This new mode, “Clone Rumble,” allows only two selectable heroes per team. So, if you’ve ever wanted to intentionally mirror the opposing team in a match, now’s your golden opportunity.
Here’s how it works: each team votes on one hero who will make an appearance in the multiplayer game, allowing everyone in the match to choose between just those two heroes. Imagine the possibilities—you could end up with a team entirely composed of Groot throwing up walls, Luna Snow unleashing devastating ults, or Adam Warlock executing tactical revives. Will it be pure chaos? Absolutely. And will you sometimes struggle to follow the action? Most likely.
In Clone Rumble, traditional Marvel Rivals team setups are tossed aside, letting both sides stack abilities and ultimates to create outrageous synergies. It’s going to feel far from balanced, yet the thought of bombarding an enemy with six simultaneous Scarlet Witch ultimates is oddly satisfying.
Adding to the mayhem, there’s an event-based board game packed with 320 collectibles like nameplates, emotes, sprays, and units. So, if you’re aiming to stock up on currency for your next Marvel Rivals skin, tackling these event challenges is your best bet. Keep an eye out for Black Widow’s exciting new outfit, a western-style gunslinger costume inspired by her 1872 comic storyline where she wed Bucky Barnes. Intrigued? That’s just one of many reasons to join in on the action.
NetEase Games has announced that Clone Rumble will kick off on Friday, March 7, though they’ve yet to reveal how long the event will last.
