Exciting news for Sims fans: EA is bringing back The Sims and The Sims 2, along with their various expansion packs, to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary.
In the new Sims Legacy Collection, players can enjoy the original game and its expansion packs, including Livin’ Large, House Party, Hot Date, Vacation, Unleashed, Superstar, and Makin’ Magic. Plus, you’ll get The Sims 4’s Throwback Fit Kit if you’re feeling nostalgic.
Meanwhile, The Sims 2: Legacy Collection is loaded with content. It features the base game and expansions like University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Bon Voyage, Seasons, FreeTime, Apartment Life, and more. Also included is a selection of “Stuff” packs, such as Family Fun Stuff and Glamour Life Stuff. To top it off, there’s The Sims 4: Grunge Revival for a modern touch.
It’s worth noting, though, that the IKEA Home Stuff pack is missing from The Sims 2 bundle for those fond of stylish virtual furnishings. Both of these collections come together in The Sims: 25th Birthday Bundle.
The original Sims first captured our imaginations back in 2000, followed by The Sims 2 in 2004. Until now, The Sims hadn’t seen a rerelease, although from 2014 to 2018, EA packaged The Sims 2 expansions in The Ultimate Collection. For a while, you could even snag it for free if you could prove you had the original discs—a situation that led to an amusing chat with an EA rep and my mom who rummaged through my old bedroom.
Running these classic games on today’s computers has been a challenge, but with these rereleases, we’re hopeful they’ll work seamlessly on Windows 10 and 11, eliminating any pesky visual glitches.
