Eager to dive into Resident Evil 6 on the latest consoles? Even if you’re not, it looks like you might get the chance anyway.
Let’s be honest: Resident Evil 6 isn’t exactly the darling of the franchise. By this installment, the series had veered off into action territory, straying far from the survival horror roots that initially captivated fans. Still, no matter how much it deviates, Resident Evil enthusiasts often remain loyal to the series. Some of them might be wishing to run through its narrative on their Xbox Series X or S. Interestingly enough, that wish could soon be granted. According to a keen observation by the folks at VGC, the ESRB has given a fresh rating to the game specifically for the Xbox Series consoles, including both the X and the S models.
Though this rating doesn’t bring anything groundbreaking to light—apart from reminding us it’s Mature 17+ due to content like the occasional use of "the word ‘f**k’"—what stands out is the mention of the Xbox Series. Resident Evil 6 made its debut on the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2012 and was later ported to the Xbox One and PS4 in 2016, alongside its predecessors, 4 and 5, complete with graphical enhancements and all accompanying DLC. In 2019, the Nintendo Switch also saw its version. While the new ESRB rating doesn’t mention a PS5 version, it’s a safe bet to assume one might be in the works—it would feel rather odd to see a re-release of 6 without including 5, don’t you think?
That said, this might not thrill everyone. It’s likely pointing toward another remaster instead of a full-fledged remake, which other titles in the franchise have enjoyed. But there’s not much to do except sit tight and see if Capcom decides to make any official announcements. Until then, it’s all speculation.
