A new day, and yet another game seems to be vanishing into the ether. This time, it’s PlatinumGames’ Project G.G., a title that initially caught attention with its Ultra Man-like vibe but never divulged much more beyond that.
If you’re scratching your head trying to recall Project G.G., you’re not alone. Announced in 2020, the game quickly fell off the radar. The situation took a more uncertain turn when its director, Hideki Kamiya, who also co-founded PlatinumGames, departed the company at the tail end of 2023. Naturally, his exit raised doubts about whether Project G.G. would ever make it to gamers’ screens, and the outlook now seems particularly bleak. When you browse PlatinumGames’ website, you’ll spot 10 of their projects, showcasing titles like the Bayonetta series, Nier: Automata, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and even the freshly announced Ninja Gaiden 4.
Interestingly, a trip through the Wayback Machine reveals that their online portfolio once boasted 22 games, featuring licensed highlights like Transformers: Devastation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, and The Legend of Korra, alongside in-house creations such as Madworld. Even Babylon’s Fall, despite its less-than-stellar performance, maintains an independent page, despite its removal from the active roster, thanks to Eurogamer’s insights. As for Project G.G., it too was part of the disappearing act—its dedicated page now simply redirects visitors to the main PlatinumGames site.
This strongly suggests that Project G.G. is shelved, an almost expected outcome since Kamiya has been away from the studio for over a year. Recently, there’s been a certain haze surrounding what PlatinumGames has been focusing on, exacerbated by what appears to be a wave of staff departures. However, the buzz about the new Ninja Gaiden installment ensures that, at least for now, the company keeps chugging along.
