Intel is finally addressing the performance hiccups with its Arc GPUs and is gearing up to tackle the issues affecting older CPUs head-on.
## Intel Steps Up on Arc GPU Performance Concerns with Older Ryzen and Intel Core Processors
When Intel launched the Arc B580 and B570 GPUs, they seemed promising, especially with their generous VRAM compared to rivals. Yet, they didn’t quite make a splash in the performance charts. A significant reason why many users held back from the Battlemage GPUs was their subpar optimizations.
The concerns here go beyond mere driver updates—it’s an issue that stunted the Arc Battlemage GPUs’ chance to stand toe-to-toe with competitors. Hardware Unboxed was an early voice in highlighting the performance dip of the Arc B580 when paired with aging processors like the Ryzen 2000 and the 9th gen Intel Core lineup.
It took a while, but Intel has finally acknowledged this. They broke the silence in an update on their forums, stating:
“Thank you for your patience. We are aware of reports of performance sensitivity in some games when paired with older generation processors. We have increased our platform coverage to include more configurations in our validation process and are continuing to investigate optimizations.”
From these remarks, it’s evident that Intel knew about these issues but hadn’t focused on optimizing performance until now. They’re working towards expanding these optimizations across more configurations, hinting at a future resolution. However, they stopped short of specifying when these fixes would roll out.
To bridge the gap, Intel is expected to push updates on the driver front. After all, their hardware competes well with last-gen counterparts in the latest game titles. It was truly surprising to see the Arc B580 and B570 underperform with Intel’s own older CPUs.
Looking ahead, if Intel delivers on these improvements, it might bolster their standing against AMD and NVIDIA in the GPU space. But don’t get too optimistic—this doesn’t guarantee Intel will suddenly dominate the market. The Arc Battlemage GPUs’ low availability has already nudged them out of the current budget GPU scene.
