With an impressive tally of 466 votes, Pragmata has surged past other major titles like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, all of which are anticipated to hit the shelves within the coming year. This isn’t a mere flash in the pan. Ever since its debut back in 2020, Pragmata has consistently caught the eye in the Famitsu reader polls, often finding itself among the top three most sought-after games. You only need to look back to September 2023 to find an issue where it didn’t secure a spot in the top 10 of these coveted lists.
Even though these numbers are eye-catching, they don’t tell the full story. We’ve only glimpsed snippets of Pragmata over the past five years—just some impressive cinematics and fleeting bits of gameplay. So, what exactly is it that keeps Famitsu readers so enthralled? I’ll openly admit, when the game was first unveiled, there was an allure. But as time went on, it gradually slipped into the back corners of my mind, alongside Capcom’s other intriguing yet unfulfilled project, Deep Down.
For now, most of what we hear about Pragmata can be traced back to Capcom’s promotional materials, which paint the game as “an entirely new action-adventure set in a dystopian near-future moon environment with a rich storyline and setting.” These descriptions resonate with the information available on the PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
“We regret to announce another delay in the release of Pragmata,” the development team mentioned earlier. “Our team is diligently working to craft the best possible game, but we need additional time. We are committed to delivering a final product that justifies your patience.”
So, is Pragmata destined to share the same fate as Deep Down, or could it defy expectations and make a triumphant comeback like Fumito Ueda’s The Last Guardian? Could Capcom be considering a next-gen launch? It’s tough to say definitively. What is certain, however, is the monumental impression Pragmata has left on the gaming community. It would indeed be unfortunate for Capcom to squander this ongoing enthusiasm yet again.
