As the anticipation builds for tomorrow’s big GPU launch, it’s important to note that the Founders Edition won’t hit the shelves until later in March.
In a recent development, NVIDIA has pushed back the release of its GeForce RTX 5070 Founders Edition. Though this hasn’t been officially announced by NVIDIA, Andreas Schilling shared that the company informed him via email about the delay. The original plan was to launch the reviews today, followed by the retail rollout tomorrow.
Interestingly, Schilling, a reputable editor at Hardware Luxx, received this news just a couple of hours before the review embargo was lifted. So, for those eager to get their hands on the Founders Edition of the GeForce RTX 5070, they might be in for a wait. It’s not clear yet how this delay will impact the launch of the AIB editions, but considering recent reports, we might not see them widely available right away.
Schilling shared on Twitter, “You think you can buy a GeForce RTX 5070 Founders Edition tomorrow? No, NVIDIA told us 2 1/2 hours before review drop: ‘The RTX 5070 Founders Edition will be available later in March.'”
There’s talk that we might experience another limited release, similar to what happened with the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5070 Ti. Reviews are in for the RTX 5070, revealing it delivers RTX 4070 Super-equivalent performance. While it might not bring drastic improvements over its predecessors, its performance at a $549 price point seems fair enough given its capabilities.
If you’re struggling to get the RTX 5070 at its MSRP, patience might be your best bet until AMD rolls out the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 on March 6, with reviews available the day before. The RX 9070 XT is priced at $599, and the non-XT version comes in at $549, making it a formidable alternative to consider against the RTX 5070.
The exact reasons for the GeForce RTX 5070’s delayed availability remain under wraps. There’s been chatter about possible bugs affecting performance and supply chain hiccups, but NVIDIA hasn’t confirmed these speculations.
For now, fans will have to hold tight for the Founders Edition while hoping that the AIB custom editions remain on schedule across different regions. Retailers like B&H Photo Video have already listed the GPU at $549 for both base and OC models. If the price for AIB models rises above $600, it might be wise to explore other options unless no equivalent GPU is accessible where you are.
