The Pokémon world is expanding its collection of life-size plush toys with the addition of Ekans and Serperior. But for die-hard fans hoping to snag one of these serpentine wonders, it might not be as easy as just heading to your nearest store. Currently, these plushies are being rolled out as a limited regional release, which could make them a bit of a challenge to obtain for some.
While Pokémon has treated fans to a variety of plush toys over the years, the life-sized versions are definitely among the more elusive. We’ve seen giants like Psyduck, Porygon, and more recently, Gardevoir hit the market, and now Ekans and Serperior are slithering into place.
These two new plushies coincide with the celebration of the Year of the Snake, recently begun by the Pokémon Company. Ekans stretches an impressive 2 meters, about 6.5 feet long, while Serperior towers at 3.3 meters, nearly 11 feet. True to their Pokedex dimensions, these plushies also come with a fun twist—they can be posed, allowing fans to display them elegantly, with their heads lifted from their coiled forms. These exclusive plushies are being sold at Pokémon Centers across China, and there’s no word yet on whether they’ll become available elsewhere.
When it comes to pricing, details remain scarce. But don’t be surprised if these collectibles come with a hefty price tag. Historically, life-size Pokémon plushies have been priced in the hundreds. For example, Psyduck’s plush was listed at $288 back in 2020, while Porygon went for $390, and Gardevoir cost $325. More bulky options like the giant Slowpoke and Spheal have asked for $450. Given Ekans and Serperior’s magnificent sizes, fans should brace for similar pricing.
As of now, there’s no announcement about these plushies making their way to Pokémon Centers outside China, but there’s no need to lose hope. Other plush toys, like the large Spheal, began as region-specific but eventually found their way to other markets. With strong sales and demand in China, it’s possible that Ekans and Serperior will eventually venture to regions like Japan and the West. Meanwhile, collectors have a vast array of smaller plush options available to keep their enthusiasm alive as they wait.
The Pokémon franchise, which owes its legacy to creator Satoshi Tajiri, continues to charm with new merchandise that keeps fans buzzing with excitement. Whether or not these particular plushies become accessible to a wider audience, the franchise remains a beloved part of gaming culture, bringing fans together from across the globe.
