Keep a close eye on your competitive rank—it’s set to vanish next week when the midseason patch for Marvel Rivals rolls out. In a developer diary post today, NetEase revealed a shake-up: ranks will reset twice each season—once at the start and once midway through.
The team explained their rationale, saying, “Through thorough observation and consideration, we’ve determined that the players’ ranks during the first half of Season 1 serve as the best gauge of their competitive prowess within the season. Consequently, we’re implementing an additional rank reset to better align with upcoming content and changes.”
Prepare for a significant shift on February 21, as everyone’s rank will drop by four divisions. Marvel Rivals’ rankings typically break down into three divisions per rank (with the top two, Eternity and One Above All, being exceptions). So, if you’re sitting at Gold I, expect to land at Silver II post-reset. At the start of a new season, you’ll face a drop of six divisions. However, NetEase is prepared to “fine-tune this” if the competitive scene descends into chaos as players find their true ranks.
Looking at data from RivalsTracker, most competitive players hover between Silver I and Gold III. This means many will find themselves competing in bronze territory for a bit.
For those chasing the Blood Shield Invisible Woman skin, you’ll need to reach Gold III by next Friday. Once the midseason patch drops, a new skin reward will replace it. Players are now required to complete 10 matches to earn these rewards, ensuring that those in higher ranks can’t just snag them without actually playing.
This rank reset might impact some players more significantly than others, particularly with the “major balance adjustments” NetEase plans to introduce. Many players currently feel that healers are overwhelmingly powerful, while others just want Moon Knight’s ultimate to function properly. And who knows what dynamics the addition of the Thing and Human Torch will bring to the game?
